From a young age, Sommer exhibited an exceptional aptitude for music. By age five, he was already playing the piano with remarkable proficiency, and his talents soon extended to other instruments, including the violin and cello. His parents recognized his prodigious abilities and enrolled him in the prestigious Berlin University of the Arts when he was only fifteen years old. There, under the tutelage of renowned composers and musicians, Sommer honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of musical theory and composition.

Sommer’s early compositions were heavily influenced by the Romantic era, drawing inspiration from composers such as Johannes Brahms and Richard Wagner. However, his unique style began to emerge during his late teens, characterized by intricate harmonies, innovative structures, and a profound emotional depth that resonates with listeners. His first major work, a symphony titled “Echoes of the Past,” premiered in 2009 and was met with critical acclaim, marking the beginning of his illustrious career.

A severe illness interrupted Sommer’s burgeoning career in 2010, and he had to relearn how to speak and write. After two years, he began to teach himself how to compose, finding solace and refuge in his music. His illness profoundly influenced his later works, infusing them with a sense of joy he received from nature.

He resumed his career in 2021 with renewed enthusiasm and is completing his first recordings in 2024. His upcoming music showcases his mastery of orchestration, a skill that has earned him admiration in the music world, and his ability to convey complex emotional narratives through music.

Sommers now lives in the United States, where he found a welcoming and vibrant artistic community.  Walter Sommer’s wants his legacy to be one of resilience, innovation, and artistic excellence.
